Still Green

A river cruise through the Hudson Valley in October is a great way to enjoy the fall colors.  Except when it isn’t.

Fall is a little late this year.  Some blame hurricane Irene.  Others, advance notice of my trip.  Impossible to know the truth.

It has been a week since our visit and as of today there is still no great display. It’s disheartening.  Until you look at the tape.  The Hudson on a bad day is gloriously pretty.  And this day was far from bad.

It was warm and sunny, no real breeze.  Pleasure boats sharing the view with Amtrak passengers while the Culinary Institute of America watches over them both.

The turn at the north end was as lovely as last week’s turn between the bridges.  For a few moments this well known river looked like the edge of the frontier.  But I had been sitting in the sun a while by then.
