Duck, Duck, Dog

There was life in the Loire Valley once.  It was the place to be.  Catherine de Medici’s insisted on it and rewarded herself by carving her initials into any number of buildings. Things have not been the same since the old girl left us in the early 1600s.

At Chenoncceau her Chateau bridges the Cher river without regard for effort.  It is Catherine’s  greatest glory,  reminding all of us that ours will be less. But the ducks don’t care.  To them a Medici without bread crumbs is just a tourist.

Chevernay managed to escape having Catherine’s initials carved into the walls.  It reveals itself as the model for the chateau in the Tin tin comics.  Then there are the dogs.  A pack is kept for hunting.  Their ever present energy a counterpoint for a building not allowed to change.

The ducks and dogs really brought their Chateaus to life.   Please take two minutes to see how.

You may or may not know this but I am not an animal lover. I did prefer the ducks to the dogs and the building is certainly lovely. Slow tv material??? I’m not so sure.
