A Garden Party

Money made in the gold fields allowed the building of a great estate south of San Francisco.  It was named Filoli.  In those long gone days estates had names not addresses.  This one an abbreviation of the family motto “Fight, Love, Live”.

Filoli puts the mini into the homes we call mini mansions.  Several would fit comfortably on the ground floor.  Entire subdivisions could disappear behind the main gate.

The only practical way to bring an intact Filoli into our age was to open it as a nonprofit entity.  Staffed with volunteers who form the bridge between it’s history and ours.

Fortunately, they like to garden.  The grounds over flow with the colors of every crayon the they could coax from the box.  Each plant holding itself up for inspection.

As supporters, Karen and I were invited to a garden party and allowed to tour the grounds at sunset.  We thought soft light and strong color went well together.  Hopefully,  you agree.

This week we escape to a century old virtual reality.  Made real and alive through the hard work of many wonderful people.  Please join me now for a stroll through the garden.
