Family and friends come to visit. They compliment the yard. Remind us how lovely the ridge line view really is. They are very polite.
Sometimes they ask about the many retaining walls. So much stonework. They listen to stories of mud slides gone by. Believing without understanding. The tales suffer from an abundance of sunshine and a touch of Napa’s bounty swirling in the glass.
Our guests are not here when it rains. And rains. And rains. Not that we are alone. The birds are with us always (if the feeders stay full). Like the waterfalls they were within ten feet of the house as the rain fell and the camera whirled.
The good news is that the retaining walls performed their winter work and the heavy clouds helped the camera capture the event as they did. Condensing the resulting twenty minutes to two seemed a shame. The water was intensely vivid and the birds were colorful. So we have chosen to offer it in parts. This week the ground, next week the feeders.
Please join me now for two minutes of a very rainy day. It you have visited the difference may surprise you. If you haven’t perhaps you will.
