Sundown songfest

The Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge is a mouthful of a name for a giant puddle in the middle of the state.  A gathering spot for birds on their way from elsewhere to somewhere.  A place to rest, eat and sing.

On this particular day it was shrouded in fog.  No reason to fly when the clouds are coming your way.  It was foggy when we left home and we spent about two hours telling ourselves it would be different at the refuge.  It wasn’t.  As we started our tour the day lacked promise.  The sky dark, the birds quiet.

Suddenly the sun left the cover of a low cloud making a dash for the horizon.  The birds took notice.  So did we.  Precious time was lost getting out the camera, the tripod and the level.  A quick sound check was run as the sun surrendered to the earth.  It was all framed and the last ten minutes of a beautiful evening were captured.  That file has been distilled down to just under two minutes for your viewing.

Welcome to The Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge a name that seemed to large when we arrived and decidedly too small by the time we left.  This movie is best enjoyed when played as large and loud and you can manage.  Thanks for watching.
